In October last year, LEGO announced a contest celebrating 50 years of Dungeons & Dragons. Although I am a fan of board games like Dixit, Mysterium, Gloom, Exploding Kittens and many more, I have never had the chance to play D&D. Of course, I've heard about it mostly from TV shows and people online, and I wanted to do something for that contest myself. Season 4 doesn’t begin for another two weeks but FOX has announced that LEGO Masters has already been renewed for Season 5. It looks like Will Arnett is also back to host the show as well. Moon Palace by legotruman is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The build is based on the story of Chang’e, the goddess of the moon and it shows a scene of a palace built inside a floating crescent moon. The project joins Modular Heritage Museum, Great Temple of Abu Simbel – With Secret Treasure, and Rolls-Royce Phantom 1 “Phantom of Love” as the ones to reach the Third 2023 Review Stage. In one of the more interesting collaborations in recent times, LEGO looks to be having an upcoming partnership with Lofi Girl very soon. Formerly known as ChilledCow, Lofi Girl is a YouTube channel that provides livestreams of lo-fi hip hop music and usually has the iconic girl in the green sweater studying or relaxing. In the video clip shown on their social media channels, the girl is just studying and suddenly her pen turns into building bricks. While looking at her hands, they also turn into minifigure hands and more bricks fall out. Seemingly confused, the screen turns black with a date of September 19. Whether you call them Tokens of Appreciation, Fan Trophies, Trophy Tokens or some other variation of the name, these small LEGO-related items have become well-established at many of the major AFOL events across North America. Although often attributed to the late Arthur Gugick at Brickworld in 2012, there is some evidence of AFOLs leaving tokens as early as 2007 and 2008. The actual tokens vary greatly but can be mini-MOCs, printed tiles, stickers, cards or some other small item given to an AFOL or placed near their display to recognise that you really liked their MOC or some part of their build. LEGO builders should venture out of their comfort zones more. Often this will result in a neat surprise, just like this keep built by Taylor. You wouldn’t expect this to be built by someone who usually builds space MOCs—especially not on this scale. The name he chose for this keep is one that suits it very well, it’s truly a jewel! The different heights of towers and walls make it imposing, and the level of detail is pleasing to look at. For example, those Nexo Knights shields used for the crenelations are used perfectly. The walls have a good texture to avoid the so-called “grey wall syndrome.” And the use of several green tones makes it truly deserve the name “Emerald.” Of course, I was curious how this keep came to be, and Taylor was kind enough to answer questions I had about the MOC.
