June is over and we’re in the midst of Summer - time to sit back and enjoy a cocktail of great features, insightful articles and deep dives from all across the LEGO community! We are lucky to have this many outlets and channels that keep creating incredible content, and these are the best of the month. Here at BrickNerd, we put LEGO under the microscope and also looked at larger-than-life minifigures. We got nerdy about more LEGO SNOT and (missing) LEGO colors, and looked at how toys might be able to help equaling the playing field. We discovered Rome (twice!) and Venice made from bricks, and visited Sydney, Nevada, the UK, and Kobe, Japan. And on top of that, looked at Bio-Cup villains, went to the arcade, did some alt-building, revived old LEGO themes and 12V train track and talked (to) Big Planes. In fact, we’ve published so many interesting articles...
The next LEGO DREAMZzz set that we’ll be checking out is Izzie and Bunchu the Bunny (71453). The set has 259 pieces and retails for $19.99. Minifigures There’s only a couple of characters in the set, one of which is Izzie. She is in her Dream World form where she has some armor on the torso. The legs are dual molded for her shoes. Her double-sided head shows her with smiles on both sides with one being more than the other. Her hair has a very color to it with it fading from blue to pink. Her accessories include a sword and an hourglass. She also has Bunchu stuffed animal. The other figure in the set is the Grimspawn. It has a solid black mold with the arms and legs. The head has some printing for its yellow eyes. It also wears a black helmet with a magenta flame. The arms...

The Exhibit Floor layout has been released for San Diego Comic Con 2023 and we can confirm that LEGO will be on display once again. They’ll be at their usual spot at Booth #2829 although we don’t know yet what will be on display there. If I had to make a guess, I would think there will be something involving LEGO DREAMZzz since it’s their newest IP. In addition, we’re not sure if there will be any exclusive LEGO sets or minifigures that will be given away like with previous years. If you remember, LEGO didn’t have anything last year besides some panels and I’ve heard rumors that they were done with exclusives so we’ll see since companies have been starting to ramp up their reveals as we speak. I will be there once as press so I’ll be attending most, if not all, the LEGO panels and will be reporting...

Welcome back to Rome! Or, rather, Rocco Buttliere’s 1:650 scale version of it. En route to replicating the entire part of the Eternal City that lay behind the ancient city walls, this world-class architecture building expert has finished Phase I of the monumental task, covering about a tenth of the area that eventually will make up the SPQR project. The city center of ancient Rome, in all its 104.000-brick splendour. Photo © Rocco Buttliere, MMXXIII We sat down with Rocco to discuss the endeavour. If you haven’t already, make sure to read Part I of the interview first, where Rocco talks about how he came up with the idea, his meticulous research, angles and shapes that are difficult to get right using the square medium of LEGO, and using Stud.io during the design process. Devil in the Details BrickNerd: I have to say, my head still hurts a bit from looking...

He has vitiligo so the head also shows him with a spot around his right eye. His accessories include a pencil spear, an hourglass, and a green belt. Cooper has a red jacket with checkboard printing on both sides of the torso. His double-sided head shows him with a determined look on one side and...

I love things. And by things, I don’t just mean any old things. I mean weird things. Portals. Monoliths. Strange structures that contain a sense of magic and mystery. Otherworldly objects that tread the fine line between majestic awe and horrifying madness. The kinds of things that you wouldn’t necessarily want to stumble upon while taking a walk in the woods, but that would make for a great start to a sci-fi or fantasy novel. The kinds of things that are hard to put into words. Things. In today’s article, I’ve decided to subject you all to my obsession with these… uh, things. (I wasn’t kidding when I said that it’s hard to put them into words). Anyways, it seems I’m not alone in my obsession; there are tons of other LEGO artists out there who have built MOCs depicting the sorts of things upon which this article is focused. In...

The Up-Scaled LEGO Minifigure (40649) (aka Maxifig) has started popping up all over LEGO channels. And I can say it is definitely an awesome set worth all the attention. But, rather than a standard set review, if you are like me, there is a compelling force to modify this big-little guy. So, I wanted to give you my efforts as an example as well as several things I learned through the process. Hopefully, reading this will encourage you to grab your own set and help you transform it towards your vision! Up-Scaled Merchandise “For the ever-loving scale?!” LEGO has produced many larger-than-standard minifigures, parts, pieces, wall decor, shampoo bottles, etc. It can be a fun rabbit hole to get lost in, just finding the oddly satisfying oversized items you never knew existed. That said, the scales are always changing… Even in this picture of LEGO trinkets and bobbles I have built...
