The JB Spielwaren reveals continue with a new LEGO Super Mario 2024 set called the Penguin Family Snow Adventure (71430). The 228 piece expansion set includes buildable figures of Mother Penguin, Tuxie, and a Goomba. One thing to note from the set images is that it looks like LEGO will also be providing paper instructions as well. Like with the other 2024 reveals so far, it should be available January 2024. JB Spielwaren has revealed two new LEGO Jurassic World 2024 sets with the Baby Dinosaur Rescue Center (76963) and Dinosaur Fossils: T.rex Skull (76964). The Rescue Center is a 4+ set and has 139 pieces while the T.rex Skull has 577 pieces and is the more interesting one for me. If they’re doing these dinosaur fossil sets, I can see LEGO doing a while line full of different dinosaurs. Both sets should be available in January. It was only a few days ago that LEGO revealed the new LEGO Icons Botanical Collection Tiny Plants (10329) which will be releasing on December 1. It has 758 pieces and retails for $49.99. Build The set is separated into three categories of plants: tropical, carnivorous, and arid. In each category of plants, they are fitted into small, medium and large pots. Note that all the pots are built the same way for all three types of plants which may get repetitive. For the tropical plants, we have the False Shamrock (Oxalis triangularis), Jade Plant (Crassula ovata), and the Laceleaf (Anthurium andraeanum). The False Shamrock uses the smallest pot and it uses purple butterfly pieces for the leaves that are attached on a tan stalk. As you keep building the set, you notice a running theme with the interesting parts usage. The Jade Plant uses the medium sized pot and the...

It’s high time to do some trick or treating, but while it might be Halloween today, it’s also high time for our monthly LEGO community round-up! So sit back in that cozy chair of yours, take a sip of your pumpkin-spiced latte (or your preferred choice of warm drink), and enjoy this month’s potpourri of interesting articles, deep drives and insightful features from all across the LEGO community! We are lucky to have this many outlets and channels that keep creating incredible content, and these are the best of the month. Here at BrickNerd, we traveled to Seattle and Kuwait, stopped by elementary school and college, and explored sorting and SortLUG. We learned about LEGO smoke techniques, turtles and floating islands. We looked at figure building and minifigures of real people. And we took a look at how element molds change, how creativity evolves, what kids think of instruction symbols, and...

LEGO has officially announced the next set in the Modular Buildings Collection with the LEGO Icons Natural History Museum (10326). Unlike previous years where it releases in January, it will actually be available starting on December 1 and you can pre-order it today. It retails for $299.99 and has 4,014 pieces which is the most pieces used for a building in the history of the theme. The museum features two floors of science exhibits including a brick-built Brachiosaurus skeleton that stretches into the second floor. Other dinosaur exhibits has a sabretooth skull, a fossil, and dinosaur eggs. There’s also a geology and space exhibits as well. In one of the lifestyle images provided by LEGO, there’s a random blue food truck next to the set which could suggest that it could be a future gift with purchase item. LEGO has not responded to questions on what it is yet at this...

Last Halloween, we shared instructions for two small builds: a witch on her broomstick, and a grave with a crow. In that article, I wrote that the grave was actually a one-bedroom zombie apartment. And for this year's Halloween edition of our Quick Builds, I feel that I have to reveal the apartment’s owner. He's a cool guy and goes by the name of Mr. Braaaainss. When I asked, he said only “Braaaainss” but he does look like a Mister to me. Instructions to Build a Halloween Zombie I really wanted to build a LEGO zombie with a dislocated jaw and the hinge parts (hinge base + hinge top) were perfect for the task. This is where the build started. Then I had to figure out the eyes, and I came up with the minifig hands inserted into headlight bricks. And because this was the coolest part of the zombie, I...

Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published March 14, 2021. If you have ever watched one of those “ghost hunting” television shows, you may have noticed that they never seem to actually detect any ghosts, let alone capture any credible evidence of them. Many LEGO “MOC hunting” blogs seem to have those same issues with detecting ghost MOCs, as this build of Slimer by Taiwanese builder ZiO Chao has gone largely unnoticed... until now! We recently featured ZiO Chao’s bonsai tree, and while we were going through the depths of their photostream on Flickr we got slimed. Slimer (also known as Onionhead, Little Spud or The Green Ghost) was the first ghost successfully captured by the Ghostbusters in the original Ghostbusters movie (1984). Made up of pure Ectoplasm, he leaves behind a trail of slime whenever he passes through solid objects, and is also known for his ravenous appetite. Scientifically speaking,...
