Halloween is the perfect season to talk about clowns. Whether you find them funny or frightening, they’ve always danced on that fine line between joy and unease. When I was a child, a clown or two would come to my birthday party every year. I loved it. Since then, clowns have remained one of my lifelong fascinations from Birthday gifts to Halloween decor. So when LEGO revealed that the new One Piece sets would feature a pirate clown, I jumped at the chance to make my obsession come full circle. Doing research for this article has certainly been a highlight! Birthday Clowns In the 1980s, various clowns came to my birthday party throughout my early years. Join me as we explore the history of LEGO clowns before we check out the new Netflix One Piece set to determine if Buggy the Clown is a worthy contender to join LEGO’s already massive...
LEGO has released a teaser for the upcoming LEGO Ideas announcement which they say is the for the biggest review announcement ever. It’ll be this Thursday, October 30 for the First 2025 Review Stage which had 57 projects qualify for it. When they say it is the biggest announcement, it could either mean that the project is the biggest one that has won or it could mean that the number of projects that have passed is the most ever. The video itself showed six LEGO designers so that could be hinting 6 projects passing. Whatever it is, it’s only a few days away. It was 70 years ago that LEGO introduced the System in Play and its been at the heart of how we build today. LEGO has released a feature showing the different types of houses throughout the years using the LEGO System in Play from the first one being the Town Plan to one of the more recent ones with teh Modern House. Houses built to last: 70 years of the LEGO® System in Play 70 years ago, the LEGO Group introduced the System in Play – a simple but revolutionary idea that means every LEGO® element, made generations apart, would fit together. At its heart, the System in Play ensures that every element, from tiny hairbrushes to lightsabres, can connect. It’s why a LEGO astronaut can visit the LEGO Boutique Hotel, or a DUPLO giraffe can join a LEGO City adventure. This versatility has made the LEGO System in Play the...

In my previous article, I wrote about what to consider when starting a First LEGO League Team. Since then, our inaugural season has gotten underway, and we’re learning so much about the sport! From what resources we need to what exactly an FLL team meeting is. While there have been some learning moments, the most important observation is that the kids are actually using LEGO to build robots, work as a team, and learn real science. As I prep for this week’s meeting, I wanted to share some of what we learned to help anyone else who might be thinking about starting a team. LEGO League Logistics All of my initial questions were logistical. How often do we meet? Where do we meet? And, most importantly, what exactly am I going to have these kids do each week? This was my first coaching experience, and I have no functional coding abilities....
