Today’s release of LEGO’s new iconic Concorde set got me all excited about model airplanes in LEGO sets, so I went down into the archives to look at what’s come before. Just like in my previous article about model ships, I won't cover minifig sets with airplanes (there are a LOT of them!). Instead, I will focus on models of real-life airplanes. I'll also limit myself to airplanes with wings, leaving helicopters for another day. So, how far do we need to go back in time to find the first airplane set? The answer may surprise you... The Early Days Basic airplane designs in set 311 from 1962 - Image from Peeron As far back as 1950, a set with just 2x4 bricks shows an image that vaguely resembles an airplane. This is in the days before tubes and clutch power! You can’t call this a model of an airplane, though....

The qualifying period for the LEGO Ideas Second 2023 Stage is now complete and there were 49 projects that will now go into review to see which one(s) will become official sets. It started off fairly slow with only a handful of projects hitting 10k supporters but then really picked up towards the end of qualifying. It was also an interesting one as five Taylor Swift projects reached the goal with four of them being the same concept. Which one(s) do you want to see as a set in the future? • “Big Boy” Locomotive• Retro Arcade• Spartan Helmet of Leonidas• Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider• The Muppet Show• Red Bull Racing F1 Team RB18 1:12• Scooby Doo Mystery Machine• Western River Steamboat• Dreamwork’s Shrek Swamp• Asterix & Obelix• Venice• Stilt House• Red Bull RB18• Trojan Horse• Red Dwarf: Sleeping Quarters• TaleSpin Seaduck Meeting Seagull• Stud Lane Book Nook• Minifigure Gumball Machine•...

It’s September 4 and that means there are some new releases on the LEGO Shop which includes the LEGO Icons Concorde (10318) and the LEGO Ideas The Insect Collection (21342). The Concorde has 2,083 pieces and retails for $199.99 while the Insects have 1,111 pieces and is priced at $79.99. LEGO is still in the middle of the Hogwarts promotional period so there’s no extra GWPs for these two sets. As a Rakuten/Linkshare Affiliate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published September 9, 2022. Identifying individual LEGO parts from bulk second-hand purchases can be challenging. Some people want to know if a part is a genuine LEGO piece or they might want to know what sets they may have in a bulk lot or they may wish to identify or put their minifigures back together. It is worth noting that, including colour variations, there are over 70,000 different LEGO elements and some of those parts have not been available in a very long time. With this consideration, your everyday LEGO fan may struggle to identify and recognise some LEGO parts. How to Identify a LEGO Part When trying to identify LEGO parts, a great place to start is to check if the part has the LEGO logo. Most modern LEGO parts feature the logo in some capacity. However, despite the adamant claims of some LEGO...

Only a day after its official release, fans are already finding open boxes of the Series 2 LEGO Marvel Studios Collectible Minifigures (71039). As you can see in the image, this was found at a Walmart with at least 20 of the blind boxes opened up. It was noted by the OP that a lot of pieces were missing from them as well. We already knew going in that this was a very bad idea even though to LEGO, it was more environmentally friendly for them and the consumer. I guess we’ll start seeing retailers putting them in security cases or behind the counters to deter thieves. This has turned out to be more of a headache for fans as compared to the bagged ones. If you want to collect the set, I suggest just going to the secondary market. You may pay a little bit more than if you would...

A few days ago, LEGO revealed the LEGO Ideas Viking Village (21343) and you can now pre-order the set. Releasing on October 1, the 2,103 piece set retails for $129.99 and is part of the LEGO Ideas x Target campaign in which the retailer will have it as an exclusive. For Fall Geek-Out, Target also has the set up for pre-order as well. If you have the RedCard, you can also get 5% off on it in addition to getting LEGO Insider pints for uploading your receipt. There’s no promotions going on for it right now but I’m guessing it’ll be a pretty popular set when it launches.
