“The Conversation Piece” is a monthly BrickNerd series about creativity and building with LEGO authored by our friends over at the Builder Improvement Initiative (BII), a Discord-based community that helps LEGO builders of all levels get better at their craft through knowledge-sharing and constructive feedback. Have a question you would like us to consider for a future article? You can submit it here. Enjoy! Building LEGO Characters Character building is one of the surprisingly odder genres you can build in. Just like any other niche of building, it has its own set of challenges. Proportions, faces, hands, and even stability are all tricky things to get right on their own, let alone all in the same build. A good character builder can be proficient in all of these skills, yet be left with a build that feels more like a mannequin than a true character. To truly make a character convincing,...

Amazon is trying to clear out inventory and they have the LEGO Star Wars Grogu with Hover Pram (75403) on sale for 36% off the retail price. It is now listed for $64.45 which saves you $35 on it. The discount is the most we’ve seen on the set and is better than the Prime Big Deal Days sale last month. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. October brought no shortage of great LEGO content from around the globe! Here at BrickNerd, we started the month by providing a Spiderman-themed spider model for Halloween and ended it with instructions for a cute ghost trick-or-treater. We had some fun with Wednesday sets, and learned about customizing a real-world motorcycle with LEGO, and cracked the secret code of LEGO castle sets. We looked at removing printing from LEGO elements to create a new minifig look and investigated how minifigure keychains are constructed to repair a sentimental keepsake. We checked in with our FLL team, sent a castle to space, doubled down on developing a LEGO style, and learned more than we ever wanted to know about LEGO clowns. In fact, we’ve published so many interesting articles in October that we’ve included an interactive calendar of them at the bottom of this post, so you can make sure you haven’t missed...
