The Japan Brickfest (JBF) is Japan’s largest international fan-organized LEGO event and an official LEGO networking event since 2017. More than 270 LEGO lovers - kids, teens, and adults - from all over the world have exhibited their MOCs throughout the years. It was held yearly until COVID shut Japan’s borders and forced everyone to stay home. This 2023 it was held June 10-11 at the Canadian Academy at Rokko Island, Kobe, Japan. This is my third time attending JBF, having previously attended in 2018 and 2019. In the lead paragraph of my MOC TALK article last month, I made mention of a few “anonymous white brick trophies being placed around convention halls” at LEGO fan events. I’ve written about this mysterious occurrence a couple of years ago elsewhere, but I think it is a tale that merits a retelling. LEGO has recently released a new LEGO Disney set that combines aspects of the LEGO Art and DOTS themes with the 100 Years of Disney Animation Icons (43221). The set has 1,022 pieces and retails for $59.99. Minifigure The set does come with an exclusive Mickey Mouse minifigures. Here we see him with some teal overalls that is spattered with paint. The head is the usual Mickey head that we’ve seen before. His accessories include a brush and a palatte. He does also come with a white baseplate. Build The build begins with the smaller display frame with the Disney 100 logo in Mickey Mouse’s usual colors which is provided by the initial group of builds. I’ll explain more about that later on. This year I ventured to a new brick show, Bristlecone Bricks and Train show in Ely, NV. Ely (E-Lee) is in White Pine County, the middle of Eastern Nevada, four hours southwest of Salt Lake City, four hours north of Las Vegas, and five hours directly east of Reno. It’s a bit high in elevation at 6,437 feet, with a population of just over 4,000 folks. It’s a great little town, home of the Northern Nevada Railway Museum, great views, garnet hunting, and steam and diesel train regular and themed (1920s) rides. Also, hand cart rides to get those muscles working. The Bristlecone Bricks and Train Show helps raise money for the continued operation and upkeep of the museum. In my last review of the LEGO Jurassic Park 30th Anniversary sets, we check out the largest set in the wave, the Visitor Center: T. rex & Raptor Attack (76961).
