The Odeon of Herodes Atticus is a theater on the Acropolis in Athens, which still hosts concerts, plays, and other events today. George Panteleon has recreated this ancient Greek structure in LEGO, with a central stage, a ring of seating, and the original backdrop against which both modern and ancient artists wowed the crowd. The technique George used for the sloped seating is quite interesting, and worth a closer look. Clips connect slopes set on their side to achieve the classic bowl shape of theaters. Though never seen in any Star Wars movie, white speeder bikes always seemed appropriate for Scout Troopers, perfectly matching their armor. One could almost imagine them patrolling a cold, icy planet like Hoth. This build by James Shields gives us a visual delight as it seems quite simply a natural color for them to be in. One of the LEGO Speed Champions cars released earlier this year that we overlooked — perhaps distracted by the truly awesome 2016 Ford GT & 1966 Ford GT40 (my favorite Speed Champions set yet) — was 75877 Mercedes-AMG GT3. Before we dig into reviews of the summer 2017 LEGO sets, let’s catch up with this speedy little roadster. The LEGO Mercedes-AMG GT3 retails for $14.99 and includes 196 pieces, including one minifigure. The set’s pieces come in several unnumbered bags, with the sticker sheet loose inside the box. Like all other Speed Champions cars, the GT3 makes extensive use of studs-out connections on brackets to achieve the exterior shaping. But like the Bugatti Chiron, the rear headlights are built with techniques that would normally be considered “illegal” in official LEGO sets. A kampung is the definition of a village in parts of Southeast Asia. Malaysian builder Ng Wen Yeh recreates an astounding and accurate dwelling frequently seen in rural communities, with some inspiration from life and memories of yesteryears. This beautiful build shares a typical day around a family and community life in simpler times. A kampung house is typically built from wooden panels, and the sand green LEGO tiles give it the perfect weathered look. The surrounding area usually has minimalistic needs and is normally built on any available patch of barren sand. The home typically rests on stilts or piles to avoid the decaying effects of weather and rain. What brings this build to life is the actual depiction of a typical day. The LEGO Ideas team in Billund, Denmark revealed the first images and box art for the next Ideas set 21310 Old Fishing Store earlier today, and The Brothers Brick was on location at LEGO headquarters to meet the team behind this set. The set was revealed in a small restaurant in Billund as part of the LEGO Fan Media Days that TBB is currently attending. LEGO graphic designer Mark Tranter, fan designer Robert Bontenbal, and LEGO designer Adam Grabowski were on hand to talk through some details. Fan designer Robert admitted that while he actually saw the final set months ago, it was still very exciting to experience the reveal and see a “wow” reaction from all the fan-media representatives. Have you ever wondered where Neo-Classic Space minifigures come from? Well, Wami Delthorn has captured a certain Dr. Clarke at work, creating what I can only assume is the next generation of Neo-Classic Space crew members. Most of the NCS LEGO creations we feature here are spaceships in the the usual combination of blue and gray, with the requisite pops of red and yellow. But this interior scene fits right into that aesthetic, with masses of greebles on every surface, illuminated by some excellent lighting.
