The spirit of Hawkins is alive in these Stranger Things fan creations [Feature]

Placeholder Image

Whether you’re rewatching the show, still coming to terms with the finale, or fully convinced that there’s a secret episode on the way (Conformity Gate, anyone?), there’s a good chance that you’re still thinking about Stranger Things. We are too, and the LEGO community has apparently been feverishly building MOCs like the fate of Hawkins depends on it. While 11370 The Creel House has been in high demand and mostly out of stock, that hasn’t stopped these builders from finding other ways to capture these characters for their builds. Join us as we journey back to The Upside Down once more!

Dustin is a fan favorite, and Rickard Stensby‘s character build does him justice. There are some wonderful shaping techniques here, from the various parts used to texture his hair to the way his hands perfectly grip the straps of his backpack. Over the years, we watched Dustin deal with endless trauma and loss, but his joyful personality and infectious laughter remained nearly constant. Rickard’s managed to bottle that up here in a build that wonderfully captures his smile and optimism.

Lego Masters Season 5 contestant Maia (MB Bricks) had an opportunity to review The Creel House set prior to release, and immediately got to work on a build from the final season that featured the brand new minifigs (and Steve’s car, RIP). This build features the fleshy wall that was revealed in Volume 1, which we later learn is the barrier of the wormhole that bridges Hawkins and The Abyss. This build feels impressively ‘alive’, and was even more impressively built and shared while the season was still airing!

Following the conclusion of Season 5, Maia shared another wonderful build of Nancy and Jonathan’s infamous breakup scene. This scene was full of tension and claustrophobia, and it feels every bit as present in this MOC. The various tiles and slopes used on the deconstructing walls really give it that ‘melting’ look, and the subtlety of the chairs and half of the table being overtaken by the liquified matter is a great touch. Jonathan even has his cassette case and ring for the perfect non-proposal.

In a journey back to the finale of Season 3, fourstud recreated the battle of Starcourt Mall with an incredible creation that is as full of detail as the mall itself. All of the heroes (even Billy) are gathered here to take on the fleshy monstrosity that is the Mind Flayer’s Hawkins form. This build features a full Scoops Ahoy, firework launchers, several stores, tons of tucked away play features, and did we mention Billy? The Mind Flayer itself even has a hidden compartment that reveals a rat inside….if you know, you know.

During this year’s Iron Forge, Kooky Bricks made use of the seed part (the Chair) to recreate the D&D books of the final campaign. The Minilander-scale character builds are wonderful, but the detail and parts used to bring the campaign to life on the table is our favorite touch. If you go back and rewatch Season 1 after finishing the final season, it’s interesting to see the direct comparisons in the opening D&D campaign and this final one. The gang never gave up on Will, and they don’t give up on Eleven.

If you thought one Mind Flayer wasn’t enough, can we interest you in three? BRICKfolk set out to create all three versions of the monster that we saw over the course of 5 seasons and 10 years. The shadow version that appears to Will early on the show (my personal favorite), the fleshy version that Billy and friends create in Season 3, and the final Lovecraftian version that Vecna gives life to in The Abyss in the finale. There’s something to love about each of these versions captured in these builds. Which is your favorite?

Shifting over to minifig-focused builds, this ensemble from bricksnbeasts shows off the Stranger Things party fully revealed in their D&D classes: Mike Wheeler the Paladin (and the heart of the party), Dustin Henderson the Bard, Will Byers the Sorcerer (Will the Wise), and Lucas Sinclair the Ranger. Each of these figures is an impressive sight on their own, and seeing the entire party together makes us wish that we’d seen them in this form at some point in the show!

Tobias is a writer for StoneWars.de, and takes us to the underground tunnels of Season 2 as Jim Hopper investigates beneath a rotting pumpkin patch. We love the contrast here, especially where the vines and tentacles meet the earth beneath Hawkins. Revisiting Will’s abduction and the digging of the tunnels in Season 5 was one of the callbacks that helped tie all of these seasons together, and rewatching Season 2 makes you view it differently.

Speaking of Season 2, we’re still in awe of Hopper’s cabin as built by LEGO Ideas A-Frame cabin designer  (and TBB Builder of the year alum!) Andrea Lattanzio. The impeccable SNOT wood siding may look a bit ramshackle for Hawkins, but it’s a lot cozier than a Siberian prison.

Builder Ponury goes Home Alone against a Demogorgon in this slice of the Turnbow home from the third episode of Season 5.Dispshit Delightful Derek’s life would never be the same. We’re big fans of split-level dioramas like this that bring verticality to builds.

Brick My Back has put together some incredible minifig habitats, and this stack featuring scenes from Season 5 is up there with the best of them. These three habitats stack up to form one seamless build of the WSQK ‘The Squawk’ radio station, which looks like the GWP set with a massive upgrade. There are some nice details hidden throughout, like a purist Erica Sinclair minifigure. The frying Demogorgon is the cherry on top.

We look forward to seeing what Stranger Things builds come next!
