Christmas is only two weeks away and Warner Bros. has released a new animated short called Emmet’s Holiday Party: A LEGO Movie Short. Starting tomorrow, LEGO will have a new promotional item with the LEGO Seasonal Reindeer Head Christmas Ornament (5005253). You can get it with purchases of $50 or more at LEGO Stores and on Shop@Home, while supplies last. After taking a year off, LEGO introduces the 28 piece Reindeer Head which joins the 2014 Christmas Train (5002813), 2015 Christmas Train (5003083), and the 2016 Toy Soldier (5004420). Like with the previous ornaments, the parts are inside a little green pouch along with the instructions and the string. The build is very straight-forward and the finished result looks a lot like a reindeer head mount which is kind of morbid. I do recommend changing the black 1×1 round plate for the nose to a red one to represent Rudolph as it makes the build a bit more festive. Thank you to LEGO for sending in this set for me to review. In some sad news today, the original writers of LEGO Ninajgo: Masters of Spinjitzu, Dan and Kevin Hageman, announced on Twitter that they will be leaving the show after Season 9. They’ve helped with the story development that leads up to the 100th episode of the show which will be airing some time next year. Bragi Schut will be taking over the reigns for the foreseeable future. The Hageman Brothers have created so many memories for fans of Ninjago and many will be sad to see them leaving the show. We wish them the best in their future endeavors. Goodbyes are fraught with so many emotions. Though it saddens us to tell our Ninjago fans we’ve written our last episode, we are encouraged to know it won’t be the last Ninjago adventure. Even the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy gets a little peckish in the middle of the night. Luckily he keeps his Han Solo in carbonite fridge stocked with ice cold bantha milk according to builder storm TK431. Which makes me wonder, do you suppose you could make eggnog with bantha milk? Books have an inherit problem of being narrow, heavy and unstable. Unless it’s something like a dictionary it has a tendency to fall over. But humans can be clever, and we’ve come up with something called bookends, as demonstrated by builder SEBASTIAN-Z here. The funny thing is, books are found in classrooms, so you could easily find these classroom bookends in a classroom holding books. It’s too bad there’s not a miniature version of these bookends in the classroom depicted in the bookends, then there would be classroom bookends holding books in the classroom bookends holding books in the classroom…I digress. I went to high school in the 80’s. So things like the rise of MTV, Micheal Jackson, Madonna and Duran Duran are irretrievably interwoven with those most formative years, and I consider myself lucky. I was never much into pop music, but bands like Madness, Kraftwerk, Beastie Boys and Devo were on constant rotation in my Walkman. Another band was The Clash, brilliantly created here with their breakout hit Rock The Casbah by builder redfern1950s2. Just yesterday the smell of gingerbread was strong in my house as we prepared three dozen gingerbread men for our son’s concert last night. It’s an aroma and taste that is absolutely intertwined with the holidays and one I look forward to every year. We’ve been seeing Young Kylo comics since The Force Awakens premiered, and the ones by famed Disney illustrator Brian Kesinger are by far my favorite. There’s a very intentional Bill Watterson Calvin & Hobbes vibe to them, and they’re adorable.
