This is it, folks. We're down to the last three builders of Bio-Cup 2023 after a jaw-dropping Round 3 full of amazing builds. Before we get to who they are, we need to take a look the competition everyone was up against. This round’s theme was punk, broken up into three subcategories: Steampunk, Dieselpunk, and Cyberpunk. Steampunk Starting with steampunk, we have a super creative take on the category from Pierthviv. They recreated the iconic Lofi Girl scene in LEGO and steampunk themed. This build has so much to take in, from the many different Bionicle masks used in the background to the impressive shaping achieved by mixing System with Bionicle on the man in the foreground. It really makes you think. Instead of being relegated to the background, this steampunk city is the focus of the entire build. Student Scissors has brought to life a fantastic walking steampunk city. New Hashima takeover week concludes with an article by BrickNerd’s own Ted Andes who has compiled personal stories from participants in and around the epic 2023 Brickworld cybercity display. The NEW HASHIMA DAEMONS at Brickworld Chicago 2023 BrickNerd has made a recent habit of reposting my article about the legend of the White Brick on the final day of Brickworld Chicago. It is on that Sunday (Father’s Day in the US) when any new White Brick recipients will have discovered them at their displays in the early morning hours and are then eager to learn more about their significance. This year was no exception, and how they were given out once again points to their true purpose; recognizing those who have made that year’s Brickworld experience special. More importantly, they are a reminder that the convention experience is more than about competing for awards. This was all too clear as four...

New Hashima takeover week on BrickNerd continues with an article by guest contributor Meredith Najewicz who will be examining the rare and unusual colors found throughout the massive cyberpunk collaboration. Moths To A Flame (aka Translucent Orange) When people are drawn to a LEGO creation, there can be varying reasons as to what attracts them, whether it is the size, scale or content of the build. For myself, I have been having a long love affair with builds that incorporate color, especially rare or underused LEGO colors. When I saw Stefan Formento’s New Hashima build in its first iteration at BrickFair Alabama in the early winter of 2020, I was mesmerized. It felt like the build was a beacon of color sitting on the floor of a concrete convention hall. Sadly a few weeks later, the world went into lockdown with COVID, and nearly all conventions were canceled. When Brickfair returned to...

As kids growing up in the 70s and 80s can attest, when it comes to lawn darts and easy bake ovens it only takes one dumb kid to ruin a good thing for the rest of us. Maybe it was all the lead paint we ingested? Whatever the reason, we just can’t have nice things anymore! Thankfully, famed LEGO aficionado Angus MacLane has found a solution to our problem. It’s an amazing Classic Space rocket launcher that transforms into a giant baby mech. What part of that don’t you understand? Since the baby is a rocket launcher, I’m pretty sure that should pass the muster of even the most litigious parents. Probably. It definitely passes muster for what we consider to be totally amazeballs. Angus provided a graphic illustrating how the rocket launcher transforms into the adorable little tike. Once you’ve looked that over, be sure to check out our Classic...
