Those who know me know that I’m particularly fond of art. So, the release of a LEGO set that combines brick building with fine art naturally caught my attention. When the BrickNerd team suggested creating an article based on set 31215 Vincent van Gogh – Sunflowers, I was immediately on board. I won’t go into the interpretation of Van Gogh’s original painting—plenty of great resources do that already, and I encourage you to explore them. They offer a deeper understanding of the artist’s approach and how he saw the world. LEGO also created a great introductory video, which I’ve included here: I was lucky enough to see some of Van Gogh’s paintings in person at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. One in particular, Les Chaumes de Cordeville (painted just a month before his death), left a strong impression. The vivid contrasts and the precision in his brushwork were stunning up close....

LEGO has announced the winner of the LEGO Ideas A Twist of Nostalgia building contest which will become a future gift with purchase set. The winner is the Sea Serpent by HallowedBrick02 which is a re-imagining of the 6057 set from 1992. There were over 750 entries in the contest and it got dwindled down to 13 finalists for the fan vote. The build will no go into production and we’ll see it available probably about a year from now. The fan vote for the LEGO Ideas Timeless Creations building contest is now live and you can choose the next fan made set coming to stores in the future. There are five finalists and they represent something that is iconic but is very recognizable and timeless. The fan vote ends on June 10 and the winning build will be announced on September 8.
