Iron Forge 2026 Builder Spotlight: Margits_MOCs

Placeholder Image

You need to be made of stern stuff to succeed in the LEGO Iron Builder competition. Over three intense rounds, a narrowing pool of builders has to show off their skills by showcasing a different seed part. With the final round of the Iron Forge wrapped, we’re taking a look at the octet of builders in the running to win it all. Next up, Margits_MOCs, who created an impressive 13 builds featuring the seed part: engine block! The Brothers Brick is a familiar stomping ground for Margit’s creations – she even made our shortlist for 2025 Builder of the Year. And speaking of stomping, what an immaculately well-timed build this was, using the engine intake as a sturdy shoe sole. LEGO Crocs, eat your heart out.

In such a heated competition, it’s little surprise that some competition makes it into the participants’ builds, too. But neither frog nor fish seem to be able to get near this particular fly!

Fly Catchers

The frog is far from the last time the intake got used as a mouth, and indeed Margit was quite happy to extend its usefulness to other body parts. (Are they still body parts if it’s a robot?)

Vitruvian Robot

Nor is it the last time we see robots, either. Sometimes it helps to lean into the mechanical nature of the seed part!

Feeling Sheepish

Sometimes Margit takes inspiration from her kids when figuring out what to build, such as this vacuum cleaner – the source of obsession for many a toddler.

Almost...

In Round 2 of the Forge, Margit depicted a minifig and minidoll on a dinner date. For round 3, she offers up a prequel build with the happy couple about to enter this incredibly engineered restaurant.

Lobby

The great thing about the Iron Forge/Builder contests is how it encourages builders to push the envelope of connection points. In this case, that air intake becomes a parts intake. That in turn means it can become an out… Take? Outlet? You know what I mean. It’s got flames coming out of it!

Light it up

We’ve seen from the last round that Margit is not afraid of social commentary in her builds (and nor should she be). Ever in tune with current events, her hamsa build was accompanied by an expression of solidarity with women the world over, but particularly in Iran, where the turn of the year has been accompanied by unrest and violence.

Hamsa

Both this and the ice-melter were preceded by this guillotine below. A macabre follow-up to her No Kings build in the previous round, perhaps? Either way, this one features some excellent gallows humour in its accompanying caption. And the video showing it actually works makes it a cut above the rest. (See, we can do puns too!)

Guillotine detail

I’m not sure whether to describe this next one as nuts or crackers. (OK, the puns are drying up a bit now.) It’s a timely reminder that Nice Parts Use (NPU) doesn’t have to be limited to the seed part. We’re loving that Batarang moustache!

Nutcracker

This next is entitled Talking Heads, and I’ve had the sudden realisation that in commentating on Iron Forge proceedings, we TBB writers are effectively talking heads in this scenario. Thanks for the existential crisis, Margit.

Talking Head

Fans have been clamouring for the return of Bionicle, and Margit is happy to oblige… in Pez form? The seed part engine block hides under the Raanu mask, ready to dispense candy.

Pez Dispenser

Last but certainly not least is… A box? Hm. We can see plenty of engine intakes on the top, but is there more than meets the eye here?

Pandora's Box

Of course there is! In what is possibly my favourite build of the lot, one very important intake has been turned into a lock, with the help of a minifigure pick-axe. There’s a video of that one in action, too. With such creative builds, it’s little surprise that Margit sailed on into the third round!
