Behold Karak-Mahizrinul, a massive Dwarven Stronghold built in LEGO
Grab your preferred hammer or axe, a pint of ale, and join us on a tour of this Dwarven sanctuary nestled within the Red Mountains. Dwalin Forkbeard brought this imposing mountain fortress to life, and nearly every chamber and foothill of it is bustling with Dwarven activity.
The faces chiseled into the very face of the mountain bear resemblance to many of the characters within, and the sheer amount of gold and stone that is used tastefully throughout this build feels very true to character for these delvers. The water technique here is lovely, and I’m half-tempted to check for a treasure chest behind one of the waterfalls.
At the gate, an unexpected guest is awaiting entry. The added height to the Elvish character works extremely well, and makes the Dwarves stand out even more in comparison.
Higher on the mountain, Dwarves dubbed Burin Ironpalm and Master Thorin watch over the stronghold. This view gives us an opportunity to appreciate all of the detail within the outer walls, which look just as great close-up as they do at a distance.
The upper levels of the fortress reveal even more activity, and a large cast of diverse characters that each appear to have a unique personality. One of my favorite details of this build is the usage of the classic Yellow LEGO minifigure parts, which we don’t typically see much in Dwarven or fantasy builds. This allows each of these characters to feel fresh and new in their own way.
The silver mines contain riches untold, and we can again see more minifigures bursting with personality. Dorothy’s hair works so well here!
The living quarters are further up still, featuring even more gold-focused architecture and a steampunk-ish character that fully deserves his own backstory.
Finally, atop the snowy mountain and at the very top of the stronghold, a fast-travel vendor has your return plans ready. Between the Steampunk and Da Vinci-esque travel crossover and the beautifully tiled flooring we find here, this may be my favorite single area of the build.
