A day of knights from LEGO stars [Minifig Monday]

Placeholder Image

Where I live in Sweden, we’re in that time of year when day never ends, which has me craving night  Knights! For this week’s Minifig Monday, we’re rounding up enough white knights, royal champions, and bullish bruisers to surround a round table, and a strong dose of NEXO Knights!

We start with Sir Candrel, the Luminous Flameknight, from Linus (minifigurebuilds). He may equip NEXO pauldrons and shield, but this knight works with wax, not wires. I love the use of Shakespeare’s neck frill atop the helmet and the fur collar on the axe for dripping wax detail.

FlameKnight

Sobek Bricks is back with Calanthia the Dragon Slayer, a half-elf knight with flower maidens to hold up her flowing cape. I don’t know what I like better about Calanthia’s combo – the curved horns on the helmet, or the winged goat by her side.

DragonSlayer

Hailing from Italy, Lorenzo brings us Sir Eldran, Keeper of the Wing. This noble Knight also rocks NEXO gear, which pairs well with white accents. That maul looks like it could cause serious damage with ice skate edges and a sprue for the hammer.

Methinks ASortaOkayBuilder protests too much. This builder is more than okay – they’re amazing! Take this knight. Have you ever seen a more upstanding keeper of the realm? And that steed makes Shadowfax look like a nag. Nothing suspicious about this pair. Good luck in the tournament, sir!

SuspiciousHorse

bertix_brickscustom‘s scarlet knight is actually the lost King Edward IV. Betrayed by his sons, he returns in armor forged from pain with blades made from guilt. The lore is epic, but it pales next to bertix’s amazing design built atop our returning champion: NEXO shield.

HeartKnight

Bothered Brick‘s Knights of the White Star suggest what if Warhammer 20k but also America? Classic Cap’s suit is perfectly framed by NEXO armor to expose the star, while new Cap’s wings pair with seraph wings in the banner.

WhiteSTarKnights

Elden Bricks has made so many incredible knights, it was tough to pick which one to feature, but of the builder’s recent works, I loved her Knights of Stone collaboration with vigadeath_. The NEXO sword wrapped in chain gives major Dark Souls vibes, and the pair’s cruciform shields look equally epic and impractical, like all the best From Software gear. Elden’s gargoyle crest pairs perfectly with vigadeath_’s mighty stone banner.

KnightsOfStone

Okay, one more collab from Elden Bricks! The color blocking sets this horned knight ahead of the herd. Excellent use of a visor above the helm to hold those horns high.

EldenBullKinight

This time Elden’s collaborator was Red Impala, who sticks withe classic Bull Knight shield, but goes big with brick-built accessories. A curved tile makes a sharp battle axe blade. That helmet though, with the fur collar and a pair of perfectly angled horns, is truly inspired. And NEXO armor!

Andy Gaug also wants in on the Bull market and rears up with Sir Spencer here. The design started with the Axl visor from NEXO Knights, and the builder just kept adding spikes from there. The shield design is ace.

All of our minifig creators so far skew towards “purist” builds that use only official LEGO elements. That’s great, but sometimes it’s fun to also look at artists who incorporate LEGO in others ways.  Brickophilia starts with a standard minifig and sculpts armor, hair, and cloth by hand, before painting. The artist’s take on Sir Gawain and his destined doom-bringer, The Green Knight, from the film of the same name, are miniature marvels. The level of detail at this scale is incredible, from the instantly recognizable Dev Patel face to the way the artist slightly extended the Green Knight’s minifig arms to match his towering proportions. No NEXO elements here though.

That’s it for this week’s Minifig Monday. Let us know in the comments if there are any minifig creators you’d like to see us feature, or suggest a theme for an upcoming column!
