It’s a sad day in the LEGO world as longtime AFOL Community Integration Manager Jan Beyer has announced that he left the company. Some of you may have met Jan at various LEGO conventions throughout the years and he was an integral part in helping grow the AFOL community whether it be working with LUGs or just answering questions from fans. Jan will now be working with LEGO Certified Professional Caspar Bennedsen from Brick Works as a Development Manager. Although I haven’t personally met Jan, I wish him the best in his new position. A Chilean LEGO Certified Store has appeared to reveal the rumored LEGO Harry Potter The Burrow – Collectors’ Edition (76437). The official information on the set is still unclear but it has been reported to have 2,405 pieces and include minifigures of Harry Potter and the whole Weasley family including Ron, Ginny, Arthur, Molly, Fred, George, Percy, Bill, and Charlie. I used to MOC a lot. In the olden days. I am, by trade, a professional parent, and while even under optimal conditions, that entails being on-call 24/7 with a Sisyphean list of tasks. At LEGO conventions, it’s fairly common for people to mistake any grey-haired person like myself for being the parent of one of the displaying builders—as opposed to actually being one of the displayers. In addition, some people still envision the stereotypical Bionicle/constraction builder as being a young male teenager, who spends as much time debating Bionicle canon in online forums as they do actually building with Bionicle. Receiving this reaction after meeting another male Bionicle builder means to me that there’s still work to be done in changing this paradigm—even within the Bionicle community.
