I am loving these LEGO Metroid creations as of late. It takes me back to the late 80’s when my brother and I would play it on our Nintendo system. The music and sound effects were as extra-terrestrial as they come, the alien baddies were totally awesome and finding out the main protagonist, Samus Aron, was female at the end; priceless! I recall the revelation squigged some kids out at school but I was all for it. The big boss at the end, as it turns out, was also a lady of sorts. She was responsible for laying all the Metroid eggs and defending her brood with all her armor-plated, teeth-gnashing glory. Benjamin Anderson has recreated the Metroid Queen nicely, even including the transparent organ at her abdomen that was her well-guarded weak point. The only way to defeat her was to get her to ingest bombs or power bombs. It...

Robin Hood, eat your heart out! You wish you were as cool as this LEGO figure made by Justus M., but clearly, you’ve missed the mark. This creation offers a wealth of terrific techniques, but I’m especially fond of the prolific use of minifigure accessories. The pistol drawstrings around the archer’s collar, the slingshots used as boot laces, and the arrow fletching made of red megaphones are but a taste of the brick-built craftsmanship at work. And if you want more characters celebrating medieval times, make sure to check out the other brick-built figures on Justus’s Flick page. Boy, industrial containment standards sure have fallen lately, as evident in this LEGO build by Care Creations of one of the more disturbing video game bosses I have seen since Resident Evil, Mother Brain from Metroid. Clearly if a giant brain can break their glass prison this easily, someone in the QA department deserves to get fired, if they didn’t get devoured by Mother Brain first. The angles on this LEGO starfigther in the Star Wars style are out of this galaxy! But I expect nothing less from Inthert who is well-known for his black magic brickery, merging smooth sections with studs in all directions. With not a single stud in sight, there’s still plenty of greebly textures (as in, like the surface of the Death Star) and excellent part usage. One example of this is the tooth element and the roller skate on the front section. The way the angled wing accents attached to the side guns look like they fold right into the main wings is magical. This picture of the underside reveals even more note-worthy details, like the hint of landing gear next to the gun attachments. There’s also some well-placed original dark gray elements to give the belly of the craft a weathered look. The post This LEGO starfighter with teal accents has...

Mirko Soppelsa is (literally) building up quite the collection of massive LEGO Star Wars builds. This time, Davin Felth AKA TK-1023 is the subject of Mirko’s expert handiwork. What do you mean, you haven’t heard of Davin Felth?! If I say “Look, sir! Droids!”, does that help to jog your memory? Well, now you know his name, and you have to suffer with that useless knowledge taking up valuable space inside your brain like I do. Let’s just go back to admiring Mirko’s superbly detailed sculpture… And once you’re done with this one, you can see some of his other marvels in our archives. As one of the largest Space Pirates fought by warrior Samus Aran, it’s a wonder that this LEGO-made Kraid manages to fit into frame. Builder Bionic Supreme has clicked together the perfect set of dark green, olive green, and dark tan Bionicle bits to recreate this Metroid villain. But beware the spinning claws and abdominal spikes! Just like in the video games, they also look particularly deadly in brick-built form. And something tells me we’ll be seeing more of Samus’s foes in the near future…. The post Samus fears this Metroid baddie made of LEGO appeared first on The Brothers Brick. The last time Khang Huynh and Ky Duy Phong teamed up, they built one of the most impressive creations to feature on this website last year. With the Lunar New Year – or Tet, in their native Vietnam – coming up, these builders have joined forces again to create this suitably seasonal affair! It’s a colossal apricot blossom tree, symbolising good luck, good health, wealth, happiness and love in the new year. At the same time, this creation in particular symbolises just how talented Khang and Ky are! The large scale means some parts can be put to clever uses. A bunch of green swords are perfect for blades of grass, and the butterfly at the top uses wings re-purposed from an Avatar set. The post Bring in the Lunar New Year with this gorgeous (and huge!) The first thing I noticed about this wonderful LEGO Shoot the Bullet scene by Sweeps was the nice part usage (NPU) found close at hand. The 3 prong plant element makes a perfect hand for this chibi-style character named Aya Shameimaru (of Touhou Project fame). But the NPU doesn’t stop there. The ground is nicely textured with painters palettes and a nice bit of fall foliage. The recent new curved transparent bar in back is the perfect part to raise the character off the ground. Thank you so much for all the great LEGO and TBB-related questions that have filled our mailbag this past week. I’ve got some answers for you below. But if you don’t see your question below, or my answers lead to more questions, the mailbag is still open on our original post. Non-LEGO sets What’s your opinion on non-Lego building block sets for designs not sold by Lego? I collect Speed Champions, and there are a lot of non-Lego sets available mainly from China that seem to me to be designs taken from Rebrickable and then sold commercially, presumably without any credit or payment to the original designer apart from maybe purchasing their design, and using “clone” copies of Lego elements. Personally I’d rather pay the designer through Rebrickable and buy parts through places like Bricklink, but I can see why some people go for the convenience of a third party supplier...

So, the name “Veggiesaurus Rex” in the title might be my own doing, but the LEGO-built Cyatheales Carnivorous is most certainly the work of Bionicle builder Toni A. The lovely color scheme of black lizard parts meshed with dark green vegetation is adorned with plenty of white claws and teeth. Plus those six red eyes – at least, I’m guessing they’re eyes – have finally locked onto the beast’s next meal. It might be a good idea to get out of here now before this raptor of roughage strikes.
