Every scene can teach a lesson, and this scene has taught me not to wonder into deep caves. According to Tkytko, that is where Raus’zod has the Weeping Skull Mausoleum. The scene is full of clever details with great building techniques. And all those details come together to create a rather scary lair. Dead center there’s a nice stacked group of features: a double, curved staircase in front of a mystical gate surrounded by a bone-packed wall. Over to the left, we find a work area with disturbing tools and a fountain of blood. And on the right is a space for studying the dark arts. This build by dicken liu is exactly what I love about the LEGO community. In theater, they call it the “yes, and” principle; you take what you were given and go further. Dicken took the Lego 76968 Tyrannosaurus Rex set and went further…all the way to Godzilla! To look at it, you’d think Dicken had made a career of studying fossilized kaiju. Over the years, we’ve seen builders use all kinds of non-standard LEGO products; brick separators, the sprues that various minifigure accessories come attached to, even empty stick sheets. But Trevor Pearson-Jones is breaking new ground by using this actual LEGO box to create a, well…a box turtle. Trevor has captured the spirit of the LEGO Freestyle sets by crafting a delightfully mismatched creature that still retains plenty of detailed anatomy that calls to mind the real thing. And, just like a real turtle, we’re pretty sure this one can hide in its shell. We just wonder how much disassembly is required to get him in there. When Slovakian builder brianbrickster first started sharing medieval LEGO creations, the stonework and siege weapons were impressive. Over the years, with skills honed in the trials of Brickscalibur and the Summer Joust, Brian has become a true artist of castle creations. His latest is a breathtaking display of forced perspective. The transition from minifig to microscale is miraculous. The brick-built sky gives the immersive scene the air of a painting. Speaking of paintings, Brian has played with perspective before. Created for 2024’s Summer Joust, here the builder creates a whole world inside the ornate picture frame. Here is another masterpiece of playful perspective where a microscale castle is reframed as a stone sculpture. It’s a beautiful idea, perfectly executed, with incredible detail in the stonework. Polish AFOL Szymon Perz has created impressive builds in themes ranging from Pirates to Neo-Classic Space to the Old West, and of course, Castle. After a prolific run of MOCs, the builder disappeared two years ago and has been sorely missed. This week Szymon returns with a new castle creation that he calls a tribute to the Castle Era. During his time away,  Szymon has been brushing up on newer castle techniques, taking a page from Rivendell’s intricate roof tiling, but also experimenting with SNOT techniques for walls and rockwork. When I first glanced at this design, I thought it was a retake on the 2023 Concorde set (10318). But Kurt’s MOCs has done better than that with the North American XB-70 Valkyrie, a supersonic bomber from the Cold War era. Only two Valkyries were produced as it was only a prototype from the arms race for faster and higher flight. Kurt displays a strong skill with digital LEGO work on this minifig-scale design. Kurt’s renders of military jets come highly researched and immaculately detailed and are always accompanied by in-depth facts and history that make his digital LEGO creations an excellent resource for aviation buffs. It would be an understatement to say that LEGO Star Wars 75419 Death Star has been a Force Lightning rod for controversy since it was formally revealed last week. As you can tell from our review, the hands-on experience left us feeling as fried as Luke after his encounter with the Emperor. Surprisingly, the accompanying gift with purchase 40771 TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack, has generated almost as much attention, mostly negative. A lot of this stems from LEGO’s publicity photos showing the TIE Fighter with the set, despite it being a limited-time exclusive, garnering the label “DLC” after video games that seemingly lock off part of a complete game under a paywall. Mediterranean architecture — like Mediterranean living — has a unique flavor to it, sun-kissed and rooted in tradition. Andrew Tate has captured a beautiful slice of it with his latest modular-style creation. While Andrew mentioned some of the really difficult connections (the SNOT shutters offset ever so slightly), so much of this building is very “normal” LEGO. Relax and take in those pleasing right angles! Even with new LEGO elements that come out every season, never underestimate the beautiful work that can be done with a standard LEGO brick.
