Today, LEGO took the wraps off the upcoming sets for the Trolls: World Tour movie, revealing seven tie-in sets. The film, starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, is slated to arrive April 17, 2020, but the LEGO sets will come much sooner with a release date of January (which likely means they will actually drop Dec. 26, like most of the other January-wave sets). The sets feature a solid dose of new elements to create all the zany Trolls, along with other new introductions like musical notes and new hot air balloon panels. We got a brief look at the LEGO Trolls minifigures last month, but now we can see the full sets. Builder Lachlan Cameron has replicated the 2019 Ford GT quite nicely with Technic bits in an understated gunmetal gray. Much of its complex shaping is achieved through considerable build skill and liberal use of flex tubing cased in Technic pin connectors along the roofline and hood details, while the same treatment is achieved with 1×3 liftarms along the front fenders. I’m a fan of sports cars with an understated primary color scheme but a flashy secondary color (in this case tertiary color in red)…Well, it’s just enough flash to let us know it means serious business. The real thing is loaded with six cylinders in the chamber, seemingly a underwhelming number for such an aggressive beast. With this in mind, you may be tempted to race this car in your Monte Carlo but doing so would be akin to bringing a knife to a gunfight, which so many action spy movies...

Today we’re getting a look at the upcoming LEGO Ninjago 2020 lineup, thanks to retailer Meinspielzeug. These are slated to be available in the starting December 26th, and prices are listed in Euros. The new season features new speeder vehicles, a couple of mechs, a marketplace and a temple. Plus there’s a new form of Arcade Pod featuring minifigures Kai, Lloyd and Jay with a load of additional weaponry encased in a pod-like structure that resembles an old-school arcade cabinet. The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, is known for motivating the troops with a good speech, and this model by hachiroku24 is striking the perfect pose to deliver. While this Optimus may not actually transform into his truck form, the builder did manage to capture many of the details that make this instantly recognizable, from the blocky red and blue limbs to those windshield pectorals. When Lloyd Garmadon gets tired of flying his green mech dragon all over Ninjago City, he can simply drop by the local chop shop and get it re-built into this sweet LEGO mech, by Max Kunz, complete with a Gatling gun for a hand! This mech looks both nimble and stylish with gold details throughout. The jaw of the mech dragon makes a unique detail in front, reminiscent of the alien mech from District 9. LEGO’s early 2020 wave of sets is slowly taking shape with new Technic sets and the City theme focusing on the police again. In addition, we are also getting our first look at the LEGO Creator sets on their way. This wave features a toy shop, dragon, some cool vehicles and a monster burger truck. Whenever LEGO releases a big set, talented builders the world over get inspired to build similar models, but better and more epic. You see it with UCS LEGO Star Wars sets, modular buildings, castles (from Helm’s Deep to Hogwarts), and Batmobiles. It also happens in the LEGO Technic world; LEGO releases a 42110 Land Rover Defender, and out of the woodwork start crawling rugged off-roaders like this one by Manuel Nascimento. Not only did Manuel build an enormous and detailed Defender, but he also built a whole display base to demonstrate its capabilities. You can sleep on a Land Rover? That’s intense (get it? in tents?). But the lights and winch work, and it has a working transmission, too, and could in theory drive. But since it weighs in at 14.33 lbs (6.5 kg) driving it is a bit out of the question.
