Some of the best LEGO builds are the ones that move without moving, and like a picture, say a thousand words. This monochrome scene by Duncan Lindbo is one that says it all. A giant, insect-like robot, loaded with guns aimed at a sliver of concrete brick wall? I’d say we know how this one turns out, but maybe we’ll give that little guy a chance. He’s obviously doing something right if he survived this long…Then again, somehow that curious head tilt makes the mech look kinda cute. Maybe we’ve got it all wrong! Maybe it just wants to play! Have you ever had the kind of day where you end up in a muzzle and straightjacket chained to a handcart? Hannibal Lecter certainly has. For those too young to know what this is about, he specializes in the kind of culinary delights that would warrant the aforementioned muzzle and straightjacket. My spot-on Hannibal Lecter impersonations are probably what ended a few relationships in college. Some people just don’t know a good thing when they have it, right? But skcheung730 is clearly a LEGO builder after my own heart…or liver. This clever creation is just brimming with quiet menace. Today we get to see one of our favorite LEGO artists might have fared as a more traditional user of ink and paper. We’re quite familiar with the work of 2016 TBB Builder of the Year Grant Masters as a LEGO artist: sometimes it’s an adorable kung fu panda, other times it’s a lifesize steampunk pistol, or even primeval anatomy. Grant is a master of scale and always brings excellent, inventive parts usage to the table. As related by the builder, this “drawing” is meant to represent the start of the drawing process, the rough shapes and lines only just starting to come together as opposed to a completed, clean rendering. LEGO has revealed it’s latest Technic model, the 42107 LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R. The sleek superbike comes with 646 pieces which make up the motorcycle’s Technic core and red exterior. The Ducati Panigale V4 R is also the first motorcycle model in LEGO Technic history to include a gearbox. 42107 LEGO Technic Ducati Panigale V4 R will retail for $69.99 USD | 54.99 GBP | 99.99 CAD beginning on June 1st this summer. Inspired by the iconic Ducati superbike, the LEGO version of the Panigale V4 R features realistic steering and both front and rear disc brakes. The model also includes details that mirror its real-life counterpart including the shaped kickstand, exhaust pipe, windshield and dashboard. LEGO has revealed SPOTS, a new extension of the DOTS product line targeted at boys. The initial wave of the 2D tile-based crafting theme features armbands, expressive emoji picture holders, a flaming skull pencil pot, and the first in a series of “Extra SPOTS” emoji booster packs surrounding space exploration. Prices vary from US $4.99 to $19.99 with availability beginning later this summer. The creation of SPOTS is partially due to feedback on LEGO’s successful DOTS product line for exclusively targeting girls with bright colors, pastel packaging and glitter. The SPOTS theme again features building with 1×1 tiles (square, round, and quarter-circle tiles), but this time uses more black, white, red and blue colors along with unique prints of bugs, fire, road signs, grotesque emojis and space artifacts that more easily align with boys’ interests. If you think about it, the Super Mario universe is one of the only places where you want to go down the tubes. I mean, other than a water slide, where else can you find something fun at the end of a “plumbing” pipe? Perhaps this extra large (64×64 stud) pixleated pipe, built by H.Y. Leung, contains all the extra coins Mario could dream of. And don’t worry, he’s not going to be stuck in mid-air forever. This pipe contains an equally large mechanism inside to move him up and down.
