“The perimeter’s quiet.” “Yeah, a little TOO quiet.” It feels like we’ve all forgotten that there were actual Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles sets some time ago. Unlike the lifespan of LEGO’s short-lived theme, LEGO fans will build Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo for generations to come. Alex Jones (Orion Pax), the builder of all things pop culture, recently designed some nifty large scale figures of the loveable pizza-consuming reptiles. Not only is each Ninja Turtle recognisable by his coloured masks but also of their unique weapons. Alex also went out of his way to make each character a different shade of green. And it wouldn’t be possible without the Hulk arm pieces coming in those colours. I particularly like the use of minifig seats as the shells and minifig legs as the hands and feet. Check out more builds by Alex here! The post It is currently cowabunga hours appeared first...

If you’ve seen gull-wing doors that open skyward, then you’ve seen the Mercedes-Benz 300SL Coupé from 1955. Tobias Munzert created a LEGO Creator Expert-scale replica of the most beautiful car in the world using mostly parts from the official 10262 Aston Martin DB5 set. In addition to the silver colour scheme, he captured the curves of this car in precise detail, down to the slight curve of the front intake. Tobias also included basic functions that all display models need: opening trunk and hood, and the opening gull-wing doors. Moff Gideon does not simply fly a boring TIE Fighter. Rather, he is a man of class and mysterious wealth and is special enough to have his own personal spacecraft. When he arrives at the scene flanked by his stormtrooper army, there is no escape for Rebel scum… Michał Kozłowski built the TIE variant seen in The Mandalorian, known as the Outland TIE Fighter flown by Moff Gideon. While not completely bespoke to the cold and calculating Moff, this craft has a unique folding wings feature. As Michał demonstrates in his YouTube video, the wings fold easily but can also stay upright when in flight mode without wobble. He achieves this by having lightsaber blades inside several Technic pins to create the necessary friction to be stable. Check out more TIE Fighter builds we’ve featured here on The Brothers Brick! We’ve featured quite a few LEGO facades, but it’s surprising to see how much life might be behind these buildings. Kris Kelvin (Montgomery Burns) depicts the back lot of two buildings in excellent minifig-scale realism without sacrificing any detail or action. This diorama is bustling with new shipments of lobsters, Scala bottle elements, and pork chops. In addition to the goods, you’ll find dark tan tiles scattered across the sidewalks and air conditioners that really capture that city grime. There’s also a variety of bar and fence parts to create all sorts of railings, gates, and pipes throughout. We’ve spotted the use of some rare brown fence pieces incorporated into the tall gates of the lot entrance. And at the intersection, there’s a pair of stoplights supported by bar handles and lightsaber hilts. According to Kris, this build, along with an autumn garden, is part of a larger city diorama in...

There’s something extra cool about LEGO creations that could easily double for high-end action figures. Omar R Ovalle knows just how to deliver that sort of build, as seen here in CAT. Part of their “Space Monkey and the Astronuts” theme, this is one heavy duty worker. There are a lot of clever tricks in play here, but one you might not expect is the use of black electrical tape to bypass sourcing some hard to find LEGO elements. Personally, that just feels like a smart extension of custom sticker use, which is also used here to great effect. Omar cites Marco Marozzi as a source of inspiration for this creation. You can certainly see the influence when you look at some of Marco’s featured builds.  How about you? Inspired? What sort of mech do you want to build today? Architecture is great subject matter for micro-scale LEGO models, Jannis Mavrostomos demonstrates this with his brick-built eastern styled mini city reminiscent of Agrabah from the Aladdin films. Mavrostomos’s tiny city utilizes many commonly found elements, including tiles, 1×2 grilles, 1×1 studs, 1×1 cones, and other small pieces mostly in a tan and reddish-brown color scheme with some green and pearl gold elements. Mavrostomos also cleverly uses some more specialized elements such as the cauldron pieces as well as the ice cream cone with swirl element to render domes and part of a minaret tower. There is even a tan pair of short minfigure legs which serve as a building. Overall, this build is certainly a nice assemblage of small pieces forming a much bigger picture. Thanks to retail giant Walmart, we’re getting a first look at three new Star Wars construction sets for adults. LEGO will continue their line of Star Wars Helmets with Darth Vader and the Scout Trooper. The Helmets Collection started last year with Boba Fett, the Stormtrooper, and the TIE Fighter Pilot. Next to the two helmets, the Imperial Probe Droid will get the LEGO treatment once more. The droid has been made in minifigure scale quite a few times before, but this time it consists of a lot more than 25 pieces and will be in a much larger scale, making it a UCS-style droid similar to 75187 BB-8. There’s no word yet on precisely when the sets will be released or the prices. These sets vary a bit in size from the previous wave, so we’re not sure if LEGO will price them at the same $59.99 USD. LEGO Star...

The weather is warming up here in the Northern Hemisphere and so are the waters. Beach and boating season is truly upon us as well as maritime scenes which wouldn’t be complete without a lighthouse. Andreas Lenander’s LEGO model surely embodies this summertime energy. Lenander builds his lighthouse on top of a rocky island composed of dark grey and olive green slopes, bricks, tiles, and plates of varying types and sizes. There are two smaller islands similarly composed, all three islands rest on top of a vast sea of light blue trans-clear 1×2 tiles. There are a couple of trees on the main island fashioned out of orange 1×1 flower pieces and yellow leaves which pop against the darker colors comprising this work. While the build as a whole seems ominous, the brick-built light house offers a comforting light to those wandering the seas. The post A light for the dark...

Have you ever gone to an art museum with a notebook, ready to try how artists started creating their masterpieces? Have you also drawn a rough sketch with a pencil to get the fastest idea of the artist’s process? Tobias Munzert has done exactly that, but by using LEGO pieces. In this triptych, he recreated the motifs of three paintings by German Expressionist painter Franz Marc – Red Deers, Blue Horse, and Red Horses in black and white to emulate pencil drawings. Talk about blending LEGO and art! Each drawing is laid out on a field of white bricks acting as a blank canvas. The minimalist black “sketches” are made up of various thin parts in black held by clips. Tobias really utilised his NPU skills, and has given us a good idea on which parts to make curves with. See if you can spot each unique minifig utensil and animals...

It takes a lot to design a great LEGO spaceship and even more to build a swooshable one. Now, once the new 10283 NASA Space Shuttle Discovery is revealed, let’s look into the eyes of brave LEGO designers behind the latest exclusive set. Meet Milan Madge, Mani Zamani, and Nico Vas, three courageous designers telling us more about how the LEGO version of the Discovery space shuttle was created. As usual, the designer video gives great insight into the challenges the designers had to deal with and a closer look at the new pieces. For instance, Mani explains the reasons for the new curved wall element, while Nick shows where you can find a heart in the model.
