Nick Micheels (aka LobsterThermador) sent many a Twilight fan swooning with his Cullen House MOC that became an official LEGO Ideas set earlier this year. The builder shows that he’s as nimble as Edward, switching from minifig to miniland-scale with ease. He brought that versatility when to the cast of LEGO Masters Season 5, alongside his sister Kyndall. Worried that Nick’s mostly-bloodless vampire builds mean his builds lack bite? Yeah, right. Nick has a wicked sense of humor in his LEGO subjects. This is part of our series on MOCs of the Masters where we preview the work of the newest batch of LEGO Master contestants. Have a look at creations from other builders in the lineup. The post MOCs of the LEGO Masters: Cullen House designer sparkles with sister appeared first on The Brothers Brick. Ben Grayson has been featured a few times on The Brothers Brick, but this week the builder is taking brick brotherhood to another level as he joins LEGO Masters season 5 alongside his brother Michael. Ben completed this pre-show piece as a color challenge, contrasting yellowish green foliage with lavender moss. We’re big fans of floating rocks around here, and Ben makes this motif soar on a small footprint with excellent verticality and crisscrossing vines as a dynamic flourish. Ben pairs the build with a little narrative. Fisherman Bjorn Clidestine is journeying far from home, an old man alone into the Aether on a desperate mission to help his starving village. Good luck, Bjorn, and good luck to the brothers Grayson! This is part of our series on MOCs of the Masters where we preview the work of the newest batch of LEGO Master contestants. Rogue One gave us the U-Wing, with its four over-sized engines and two long s-foils. Star Wars: Rebels, however, delivered a slightly more used version. Liam Hunter has built the beat-up version in LEGO, with only two engines remaining and battered s-foils. If I am honest, I really prefer the look of the U-Wing in this shape. And thanks to Liam, I get to see it in a great level of detail. The post This U-Wing takes a beating and keeps on smuggling appeared first on The Brothers Brick. Classic LEGO Castle sets could loom large with a few hundred parts thanks to molded wall pieces and base plates. When your goal is to capture craggy stonework, weathered walls, and rolling terrain, hundreds of parts becomes thousands. Peter (forestArcher) wanted to build in the maximalist medieval style for a long time, with whimsical angles where everything feels on the verge of collapse, but never had the parts to pull it off. After an infusion of new pieces, Peter was finally able to tackle the fantasy architecture. Take a moment to admire that crumbly foundation that mixes SNOT techniques, profile bricks, and subtle slopes. It’s a beautiful half-timbered house that looks like it would come tumbling down if you blow on it! Peter shares the builds that inspired this journey into medieval brickwork. Each is a wonderful model on its own, and a reminder of how much innovation and iteration exists in...

Mechs and minifigs have been near and dear to the Brothers Brick for as long as we’ve been covering LEGO fandom. It’s always a thrill when builders bring a specific and fresh aesthetic to a favorite genre, and that’s definitely been the case with Brickbot Studios, Red Impala, and Zakar.ion – three builders who are absolutely crushing it with military mechs at an intimate perspective. The trio collaborated last week on trench warfare dieselpunk mechs inspired by the 1920 setting of mr_werewolf, with each builder bringing a personal spin to the theme. This week on Minifig Monday, we’re spotlighting this collab, but also some mortar blasts from the dieselpunk past from some top builders of yesteryear playing in a similar sandbox. Leading this week’s charge is the PZM-7 Śmiały from Red Impala. Swift, merciless, and armed with an anti-mech rifle, this unit looks ready to leap over trenches like a Winged...

As Mario Kart players know, when there’s a Spiny Shell (aka “Blue Shell”) headed your way, you’re in for a world of trouble. But not this one, homing in on LEGO Insiders. Just in time to accompany the Mario Kart Standard Kart display set, LEGO is adding a new set to the Insiders Reward page: LEGO Mario Kart 40787 Spiny Shell. Containing 234 pieces, the set can be redeemed for 2,500 Insider Points and added to any order starting on May 15. (Not an insider? Read about the free program here.) Aside from being a fun companion to the next big Mario Kart set, the Blue Spiny Shell packs an excellent mix of parts, including previously rare blue curved slopes and white tubes. Just be careful handling this new set around your completed Karts, as if it’s anything like the video game version, it’ll have them in pieces faster than a...

Hopefully you met the KX-series security droid in Rogue One where we have the wonderful wit of K-2SO, or maybe you met the KX-series as a relentless enemy in the Star Wars: Jedi video games. Thankfully, this LEGO version by Leot is the rebel-supporting K-2SO. Given that we just had May 4th and Andor Season 2, Leot has been on a run of Andor themed builds. Here we get to see K2 giving the KX’s patented shove to an Imperial officer. The post K2-SO delivers safety, security and wit appeared first on The Brothers Brick. scapebysam lives up to his name with this beautiful scale LEGO build of the Gold Coast in Australia. It is not just the breadth of this build that stands out. scapebysam has truly put wonderful detail on everything, being true to the buildings of the city. And while the builder calls out Q1, Australia’s tallest building, it’s the edgy Jewel towers that catch my eye. From this angle, we can see the multi-faceted Jewel in the foreground, and the tall Q1 clad in sand blue in the background. And taking the top-down vantage, you can make out all the roads lining up with the coast. There’s so much detail put into the different intersection designs, as well as road angles relative to the grid of city blocks. Viewing the model from its north, the “Brickvention” printed tile along the side comes into view. This isn’t the only bit of Aussie coastline...

In celebration of Mothers Day and the many AFOLs who became mothers or mothers who discovered LEGO through their children, we present this guest post from our own Kimberly Giffen. The day arrives when the oldest child receives her first LEGO set, and the time for endless hours of building with your children has come. As a family with an AFOL mother and four kids, so many hours have been spent on building. We build together, they move on to something else, and I continue building. There is joy in the process. Watching as my oldest leans into the storytelling aspect of LEGO while one of the twins blows my mind with his part usage. The progression of helping with sets to watching them finish advanced builds all on their own. We have learned together. They would give me build requests. Mom, can you build a house, a school, a waterfall...

The Imperial probe droid floating up above the snow drift in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back with its long limbs unfolding like a nightmare spider was terrifying enough, but this microscale model by Tim Goddard of the heavy viper droid seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story took that fright to a new level. Armed with more firepower and more armor, these droids really put a damper on the plans of our heroes, Han Solo and Chewbacca. The details on this tiny nightmare capture the sense of menace quite well. The post This LEGO heavy viper droid may be small but he packs a punch appeared first on The Brothers Brick.
