I love a good old classic set, the 1986 Guarded Inn is no exception to this. Sets like these remind us of simpler times where LEGO only had 9 colors, and everyone supported the same smile. I love it when creators use a set like this as inspiration and manage to bring it to 2020 by using newer parts and techniques. Stuifzand didn’t use any of the tudor wall panel. And this set came with a lot of panels, 8 to be exact. The door was replaced by a brick-build but door but in the same style as the original set. Sometimes a simple two-toned LEGO castle can go a long way. In this diorama, Mark of Siloam brings us Huntington Castle, his largest build to date measuring at 20″ by 45″. I’m not sure how much that is converted into studs, but it sure looks grand within this lively diorama. With its solid sand green and gray brickwork, the Huntington Castle is well-fortified with guards peering out into the land. When the castle’s functioning portcullis is lifted, the drawbridge can be lowered to access the main dirt path. A neat windmill sits just across the river, next to an open field for cattle to graze. The overall composition is rich in detail, and I’m still picking out the subtle changes in landscaping throughout the build and spotting new animals in every corner. Today, LEGO revealed the next Technic Ferrari car, the legendary Ferrari 488 GTE. The new 42125 Ferrari 488 GTE AF CORSE #51 set is a massive 1,677-piece replica featuring all the real car’s authentic features and beautiful design. The set will be available starting January 1, 2021, priced at $169.99/€179,99/£169.99. According to the press release, the new Ferrari 488 GTE will be equipped with fully independent suspension, a functioning steering wheel, and a fake V8 engine under the hood. Conceptually, the new Technic Ferrari model is similar to the 2019’s LEGO Technic 42096 Porsche 911 RSR. Both cars are of the same scale being smaller and less detailed than LEGO Technic supercars like 42115 Lamborghini Sián FKP 37. Geography buffs rejoice! Based on the volcanic Mount Rainier in Washington state, Elemental Lego presents this very cool topographical design built out of LEGO. Each colored layer represents a step in elevation. The builder rests this colorful creation on a base of black bricks and slopes. The interesting and multilayered topographical portion is composed of wing pieces, plates, and lots of tiles in all kinds of shapes and sizes. Personally this is the first time I have seen subject-matter like this rendered using LEGO bricks and pieces, and I think it really works. Making a creation in microscale is something I really admire because it’s hard to do. Making one that also looks visually pleasing is even harder. With this tiny TIE Interceptor, Dan Ko proves he is an expert when it comes to making these kinds of LEGO builds. I love when builders manage to use a seemingly single use part in a completely different way. The use of the bottom half of the Darth Vader helmet to create a Star Wars ship is pure gold. Start off the day by taking a stroll through the colonnade, grab a croissant and magazine from the newspaper stand, then head down to the underground metro. Now I could spend an endless amount of time imagining that I’m walking around in this LEGO modular row by Jean Macou. This delightful set of buildings is like Parisian Restaurant meets Assembly Square, but with an unlimited budget. Each building is more decked out than the next. Some of my favorite details include the gold and nougat color palette on the pub and small restaurant at the front. I’ve also been eyeing that sand green masonry brick building to the right and its gorgeous white trim and tan ground floor. Remove the floors to peek into the detailed interiors of the build. It’s always fun to see what LEGO builders can come up with when encouraged to think of new ways to use particular pieces. And that’s exactly what Tom Loftus has done in this abandoned throne room with dark red 2×3 shields. The first place you’ll notice it is as the seat of the three thrones, which I really think works well. I particularly like the overall design of the two smaller chairs – the seashell piece makes a very nice palmette on the seatback. The other place these shield parts are used on the floor, in a really genius kind of way. By arranging the front of the piece in a triangle, the handles on the back form a simple pattern. Repeat that 30 or so times and you have a really stunning looking floor. As a bonus, the spaces between the handles work really well for the overgrown motif, as...

The monster on the street is telling us that none other than Michael Bay of Transformers fame has been tapped to relaunch the Sesame Street franchise for, and I’m quoting here, “a million kajillion dollars.” The source of the leak, a Mister “I.M. Lying” provided an image of a LEGO toy prototype reportedly designed by Simon Liu. Using the new Oscar the Grouch head from the Sesame Street Ideas set, Simon has given our resident Grouch the ability to take out his own trash.
