We’re beginning to wind down our reviews of the first 2018 wave of LEGO Speed Champions, and today we take a closer look at another Ford racecar, 75885 Ford Fiesta M-Sport WRC. The Ford Fiesta retails for $14.99, with 203 pieces and a minifig driver. The LEGO car depicts a 2017 Ford Fiesta kitted out for World Rally Championship racing, in M-Sport team livery. The box, instructions, & sticker sheet Like other single-car sets in the Speed Champions line, the car comes in several unnumbered bags inside a small cardboard box. The back of the box showcases the car’s play features (such as they are for such a small set, and we’ll cover them when discussing the finished model later in the review) along with a photo of the real racecar. Most of us are familiar with princesses kissing frogs in fairytales to save their beloved from a curse, but this build by Revan New introduced me to a different, unique story, in which the girl is tasked by a sorcerer to guess her lover amongst four of the sorcerer’s apprentices, turned into ravens. The creation is not a perfectly “realistic” recreation of the fairytale scene, as Revan adds expressive, artistic accents to the build. The snow on the edges of the beautifully constructed walls seems to have little logical relation to the scene itself, instead capturing the atmosphere and emotional aspects of the story. A few splashes of brown help to break up the build colour-wise without making it inapropriately cheerful, and the window is especially well integrated into the wall. When it comes to building a great LEGO narrative, the right signature element can really set the scene. Take this delightful flying submarine scene by Yang Wang for example. The tall, skinny, chibi-style fuselage with that perfectly rounded canopy creates a unique and fun vehicle. The working tilt rotors make this airship/submersible complete. Here in this closeup of the vehicle, we see more great details, like the pin-up girl commonly associated with fighter planes from World War 2, the clean yellow stripe, and the rotors swiveled down in flight mode. We can see a minifigure in a cool black suit with blue highlights. We presume this is Sam, with a disc strapped to his back.
