When considering what LEGO creation to write about there were the usual offerings of a cool spaceship, castle diorama, Star Wars something or other…and a pretty mustachioed man vacuuming. Then I was like; hell yeah, this is the one I want to write about! Upon closer inspection, I realized this little scene built by Mark van der Maarel looked a bit familiar and recalled that it depicts the Queen video for their song “I Want to Break Free”, showcasing the entire band in drag. Freddy looks particularly ravishing in a pink top, heels, and a short skirt as he sings about how he’d like to be free from a toxic relationship. We’ve all been there, right? I mean the toxic relationship part. Also the vacuuming in heels part. I mean seriously, I’m like two bags of female-packaged M&Ms, a bag of Cracker Jills (not Cracker Jacks), and a Bud Light away...

This excellent LEGO insect built by Duncan Lindbo is one of my most favorite fan builds in recent history. Set atop an enlarged computer chip, it totally sells the idea that this is some sort of cyber bug. It even has a realistic name: “Cyberoptera Digitalis”. But apart from simply looking cool, it utilizes some awesome part techniques such as 3-pointed “rock crystals” for eyes, crowbars for feet, a screwdriver for a proboscis, and Uruk-hai swords for wing-tips. Speaking of wings, they even articulate and fan out! If you like this, check out some more awesome models by Duncan Lindbo, as well as all sorts of cyber creations. The Western River Steamboat by CTDpower is the latest project to achieve 10,000 supporters on LEGO Ideas. The boat is about 30″ long and 7.5″ wide and can separate into four parts for easy access. It is also minifigure scale. The project joins “Big Boy” Locomotive, Retro Arcade, Spartan Helmet of Leonidas, Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, The Muppet Show, Red Bull Racing F1 Team RB18 1:12, and Scooby Doo Mystery Machine as the ones to reach the Second 2023 Review Stage. Although we’ve seen a glimpse of it already, LEGO has officially revealed the LEGO Technic NASA Mars Rover Perseverance (42158). Releasing on June 1, the set has 1,132 pieces and retails for $99.99. The set makes use of the LEGO Technic AR Augmented Reality app to enhance the building experience. Update: The Rover is now on the LEGO Shop and it looks like North America will be getting it in August while the UK and Europe will get it next month. Continuing with my reviews of the recent LEGO Harry Potter sets, we now check out the Hogwarts: Room of Requirement (76413). It has 587 pieces and retails for $49.99. Minifigures Although this set is a medium sized one, it has five minifigures included, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Blaise Zabini, and the Helena Ravenclaw as the Grey Lady. Harry is in his Deathly Hallows: Part 2 outfit which is the more casual one with the tan jacket and blue pants. His double-sided head shows him with a smile on one side and a stern look on the other.
