The Korea Brickparty (KBP) took place on August 5-6, 2023, at Seoul's KIM KOO Museum & Library Convention Hall. Originating in 2019, this fan event, open to LEGO enthusiasts of all kinds, from builders and collectors to AFOLs, TFOLs, and LUGs, was jointly organized by the KBP Office, Seniors Brick LUG, and BrickDictionary LUG. The driving forces behind this event were Hoshin Cho, Kisuk Nam, Woonhyun Jeong, and Jeongsik Won. Though intended as an annual event, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted KBP in both 2020 and 2021. However, it made a triumphant return in 2022, and this year's iteration was even bigger and better. The event showcased captivating exhibits by local and international builders and featured engaging activities, including a remote control car race, where participants navigated their LEGO cars on an RC track. Participants of all ages, from children to adults, partook in the event, and the winner was determined using...
Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published August 9, 2022. Welcome back everyone, time for another technique spotlight! Today I wanted to share with you a few different examples of LEGO waterfalls that I found browsing through the AFOL community. There is something about waterfalls that just makes people happy, whether it be in real life or in the form of interlocking plastic bricks. I’ve made a few myself over the years, and if you haven’t yet tried it yourself, I can highly recommend you do so. As with most things, there are a lot of different ways to create a beautiful waterfall. I’ve tried to group the different types of techniques below and showcase some different versions and scales that people have used over the years. So let’s get to it! Curved Slopes Are Awesome First off, we have a fairly simple technique that uses curved slopes as a way...

Best of BrickNerd - Article originally published August 26, 2022. Today’s guest article comes from Brickfilmer and Brickworld Chicago Cinema Co-coordinator Casey McCoy. He interviews Stefan Minder about his short film “Out of Service” which was recently recognized as the best international brickfilm at Brickworld Chicago 2022. Every year in Schaumburg, Illinois, hundreds of LEGO fans descend on the Chicago suburb for one of the largest and most celebrated LEGO fan events – Brickworld Chicago. It’s been the highlight of my LEGO experience for the past 10 years and many others’ for good reason – the sheer variety of things to do, people to meet, and MOCs to see! But one of my favorite activities has stood above the rest – the Brickworld Film Festival. Starting in 2011 and founded by animation giants David Pagano (paganomation) and David Pickett (Nightly News at Nine/ Brick 101), the Brickworld Film Festival has always...

Today’s guest article comes from Levi Knighten who shares the joys and difficulties of building LEGO with ADHD. Building LEGO Isn’t Fun All the Time Building LEGO sets is not a fun endeavor for me. This must sound incredibly blasphemous, seeing as I’ve not only built several sets but also have designed over 50 MOCs. It’s often tedious and greatly frustrating, causing me to avoid it as much as possible. Luckily for me, I have a partner who truly enjoys building, much to my everlasting confusion. I often hang out in the same room while he builds, mostly so he listens to good music once in a while, and so I can occasionally wander over to watch. I always offer to help because I feel bad for making him build things that I asked for or even designed, but the idea of building something like a modular set on my own...

Parts Is Parts Ever bought a set for the animals? Guilty as charged. Why not use them for something unintended? Since 1979, LEGO has created hundreds of animals, ranging from a cat to a dragon, a mammoth to a shark, and everything in between. Lets explore the history of LEGO Animals, and take a peak at some wacky builds that incorporate them! Kittiens, and Crocs and Crabs, oh my! This Little Piggy Went To Market The first animals originated in the DUPLO farm subtheme, releasing in 1979. Behold, this beautiful pig. That blank face, those cool dead eyes. Relatable. I think this poor porker woke up on the wrong side of the barn! Five years later, our favorite little plastic people acquired their first animal companions. Knights could now ride horses into battle! And wagons actually had something to pull them. 1984 really upgraded castle, horses made a HUGE difference! No...
