Bio-Cup has returned in full force, and the preliminary results have been posted! As always, the contest has drawn out some of the most inventive (and bizarre) creations from the Constraction-building LEGO community. Today, we’ll quickly explore some of the builds that stood out to us.

This year’s preliminary theme was simply DREAM, and builders were left free to interpret it however their imagination (or subconscious) saw fit… including nightmares, Bionicle beds, electric sheep, DreamZzz, etc… So fall into REM with us as we take a closer look at some of the entries that caught our eye in this opening round.

Sleepless Cathedral of Flesh and Dream

Loafbuilds really knocked it out of the park, as usual, delivering a jaw-dropping piece of pure horror that wouldn’t feel out of place in a dark fantasy epic. A grotesque, fleshy mass in the process of tearing out its own skeleton, this build is as visceral as they come.

Nightmare fuel

Its brain uses an Intellect Devourer and the lungs utilize some Kraata. For the organs and blood pouring out, he’s used a cape, some fire and tail elements, topping them all off with Ackar’s orange and red marbled mask. Truly a standout build!

Tooth Fairy

I adore this monstrous variant of the Tooth Fairy. Apparently, it eats teeth because it doesn’t have any??? Freaky and awesome. The wings use nets combined with 1x2 round plates with teeth/claws embedded within. The detail that seals the deal? The toothy terror wields a pair of pliers, ensuring that no molar is safe. On the bright side, she’ll at least give ya some coin in exchange...

Horrifyingly fantastic!

Margit is a fairly recent addition to the AFOL community, and she’s made quite an impression, building all sorts of whimsically wacky creations.

Electric Sheep???

The round produced a fair share of Electric Sheep reference entries, but wow. Pierthviv built the coolest scene I’ve seen in the contests so far. There’s so much going on, but nothing feels out of place. Using some zipline/hose elements for window and half a DreamZzz cauldron for the top of the head, there are cool parts all over!

Electric sheep for electric sleep

Sadly, this build veered too heavily into system elements and was disqualified under the contest rules—but it’s simply too good not to spotlight and was indeed inspired by Bio-Cup.

Dreamweaver

lego.joey went more literal with the prompt, blending the concept of a dreamcatcher with a spider to chilling effect! He’s used banana gears, some string and an old zipline guide wheel for the abdomen, creating an intricate web design.

Arachnophobes beware!

For a brain-looking thing, Joey shoved a string element within a 4x4 trans-dark blue dome, making it look as interesting as possible.

Into the Future

With the preliminaries wrapped up, the judges have announced which builders will advance. We’re set for another three rounds of creative mayhem. Up next is Round 1, where contestants will face the theme Mythic Beasts. The brackets are drawn, the builders are ready, and we can’t wait to see which monsters emerge. Stay tuned for next week’s results!
